Name of Project/Course

Volunteering

Aims

Training focuses on the increasingly important roles volunteers are called upon to do and the impact they have on capacity building, community development and community safety in our local communities.

The history, purpose of the voluntary and community sector and its relationships with the private and statutory sectors; To be aware of  basic health and safety requirements at work, and diversity and equality issues;

To gain skills in basic admin/reception duties, and made aware of child protection and anger management issues.

To be competent in interview techniques, preparing case notes, group/committee meetings minutes/notes, and prepare reports for senior officers.

Target groups

18+ who may be long term unemployed and want to help members of the community, and at the same time record work activities on their CVs to increase their chances to get paid work in future.

Based initially at the Priory Community Centre, but easily duplicated and operated at any suitable local venue

How long & What time

2.5 hours per session,   over a 16 week period. Roll on programme

Outcomes

Participants, on completing the course, would have been trained in basic health and safety requirements at work, and aware of diversity and equality issues.

They would have been trained in basic admin/reception duties, and made aware of child protection and anger management issues.

They would have been competent in interview techniques, preparing case notes, group/committee meetings minutes/notes, and prepare reports for senior officers.

They would have been competent in assisting beneficiaries with Assessment, Planning, Implementing and Reviewing procedure, of their personal plans and being able to use the Matrix Standards to assist beneficiaries, giving information advice and guidance (IAG).

They would have been trained in completing grant applications forms and complete funding bids.

They would have been aware of their future prospect of having a career in the Voluntary and Community Sector and what steps to take to access additional training courses.

They would have been able to consider the next stage of their plan for involvement in the Voluntary and Community Sector.

Level 1 and 2 or Certificate of Attendance, where appropriate

Being negotiated with buyer/ partner

Comments—formal/informal learning. Student/Lecture led, etc.

Formal and informal. Course work, assessments, performing workshops and lectures

Additional information

1. Flexible time tables – during the days, evenings and weekends, where appropriate

2. Most of the target groups may not individually afford tuition fees. They may have to be funded by the LA and or other funders.

3. Life skills training will be offered to those who are shown to be in need

4. All workshops and courses are facilitated by individuals suitably qualified and experienced in their relevant fields.
